2019 CAES Annual Meeting — July 9-12, 2019 — The Lord Elgin Hotel — Ottawa, ON


The CAES is excited to hold the 2019 annual meeting at the Lord Elgin Hotel in our Nation’s capital. The Lord Elgin won the 2017 Star of the City & Star Team Award and was Ottawa Tourism’s 2017 Grand Prize Winner. Located minutes from the Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport the hotel is situated in a restaurant row and steps from the National Arts Centre, Confederation, Rideau Centre, Rideau Canal, Parliament Hill, Sparks Street Mall, National Gallery of Canada, and the Byward Market. Come for the meetings and stay for the sites!


The CAES Program Committee is accepting submissions of abstracts for the Selected Paper programme and proposals for Organized Sessions. See the CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS FLYER for details. The deadline for submissions is Midnight EST, February 25, 2019.

Registration rates are listed in Canadian Dollars. Fees include entrance to keynote address, welcome reception, plenary sessions, and concurrent sessions. The Annual Awards Banquet is not included in the fees and must be purchased at the time of registration for both registrants and guests.

After July 3 registrations can only be made onsite at the conference venue.

Banquet Tickets for registrants and guests MUST be purchased in advance.

Fees are processed securely through PayPal using a PayPal account or your credit card as a guest.

Ensure that the address you key in with your credit card information is identical to your billing address (ie. the address at which you receive your credit card statements).

PayPal will send you an automatic email indicating that payment was successful. If you do not receive this email, your payment was not successful and we will have no record of your registration.

No cancellations after July 3. Cancellations before July 3 will be fully reimbursed minus a $50 processing fee. To cancel your registration and/or guest banquet tickets, contact the CAES Executive Director, Valerie Johnson, at valcaes at telus dot net.


Conference Rate: $199 CND plus taxes   Cut-off Date: June 9, 2019

A block of Classic rooms has been set aside for attendees at a discounted rate. The rate will be honoured until the cut-off date. Any rooms in the block not reserved by this date are released for general sale by the hotel. Reservation requested after the cut-off date will be accepted based on availability at the best available rate.

All reservations must be accompanied by a first night room deposit or guaranteed with a major credit card. The Hotel will not hold any reservations unless secured by one of the above methods. A guaranteed reservation is held for arrival until 12:00 noon on the day following the first night reserved. Check-in time: 15:00. Check-out time: 12:00.

Valet Parking is available for hotel guests only at a charge of $30.00 per day (subject to change without notice) plus applicable taxes. As the hotel has a limited number of parking spots, there may be additional spots available for local attendees at a charge of $15.00 per day, on a first come, first serve basis and cannot be confirmed until the day of the conference. There is parking available at nearby lots as well: under the National Arts Centre and under the City of Ottawa building.


Student Members: If you are a member majoring in a program in agricultural economics or related field at a Canadian University and are presenting a paper at the annual meeting, you can apply for travel grants to offset travel expenses. Talk to your supervisor or department head if your paper is accepted to see if you are eligible.
